Documents that never leave your desk

Documents are where “free online editor” sites compete hardest, and where the upload problem is least acceptable: a lease, a medical letter or an unpublished manuscript is not something you paste into a third-party service to find out what a button does. The four tools here treat the file as something that stays where it is. Each runs entirely in the browser tab as WebAssembly, opening documents from your disk and saving them back to it.

Each app covers a different part of the document world. PdfCraft reads and edits PDF 1.3–2.0 files — viewing, reorganising, combining, splitting and securing — and exports a flattened PDF, a PDF whose text stays editable, or page images. WordCraft opens and saves .docx natively, with styles, tables, track changes and comment balloons, and also works with Markdown, TXT and HTML, exporting DOCX, PDF, Markdown or HTML. DesignCraft lays out pages for print and screen: it imports IDML (the interchange format InDesign writes) plus Markdown, DOCX, SVG and PDF, and exports print-ready PDF/X, EPUB or a .dcraft working file. DeckCraft builds slide decks that round-trip: PPTX in, PPTX out, with Markdown, PDF and images as inputs and a self-contained HTML export that carries the whole deck in one file.

The capability table below is generated from the same format record the app pages print. Where a format travels one way, the table says so.

What local-first means for documents

Editing documents online usually begins with a consent dialog about how the provider may process your file. Here there is no provider in the path. Contracts, manuscripts and slide decks are opened and saved on your machine; the apps keep working offline once cached; and the outputs are the standard formats other people already use — PDF, DOCX, PPTX, EPUB — rather than a proprietary cloud format. It also raises the ceiling: DesignCraft writes print-ready PDF/X for commercial printing, and PdfCraft can save a PDF whose text remains editable instead of flattening it.

Every cell is read from the same format record the app pages print; where a format only travels one way — PSD or DWG, for example — the table says so rather than implying a round-trip.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit a PDF online without uploading it?+
Yes. PdfCraft reads PDF 1.3–2.0 files in your browser and handles viewing, reorganising, combining, splitting and securing. It exports a flattened PDF, a PDF with editable text, or individual page images. Nothing is uploaded and no account is required.
Does WordCraft save back to DOCX?+
Yes — it is a real round-trip, not an export-only conversion. WordCraft opens and saves .docx natively, works with Markdown, TXT and HTML, and exports DOCX, PDF, Markdown or HTML, with styles, tables, track changes and comment balloons handled in the browser.
Can I open an InDesign file in a browser layout tool?+
DesignCraft imports IDML, the interchange format InDesign writes, along with Markdown, DOCX, SVG and PDF, and exports print-ready PDF/X or EPUB. Direct .indd support is not claimed.
Can I edit PowerPoint files without Microsoft 365?+
Yes. DeckCraft opens .pptx files and exports PPTX, a PDF presentation or a self-contained HTML deck, in the browser and without an account. Markdown, PDF and images can also be imported when you would rather build from plain files.
